Whether you're a new or "seasoned" cook, you'll enjoy discovering our

handcrafted herb & spice blends.

We currently offer 85 ~ from All-Purpose to Zahtar.

Many of our blends now have "Tahoe" in their name,

same fresh ingredients, same great flavor!

If you're looking for Herb Salt go to the Page with "H" Blends.

Our spice blends consist of the finest herbs and spices available. Every blend is handcrafted in

small quantities to ensure a fresh product. Because we grind with smaller machines, you may find

a peppercorn or two that didn't get completely ground;we think it's a small price to pay.

No additives, preservatives, nor MSG is used. All of our blends are gluten and soy free. Blends that contain brown sugar have a natural anti-caking agent made from rice hulls, called Nu-Flow®.

All ingredients are listed. Volume varies. If you're looking for Salt Free Blends they're marked with **

The whole idea behind mixing a bunch of herbs and spices together to make "spice blends" is summed up with this statement from a longtime customer from South Lake Tahoe, we couldn't agree more. In fact we hear this all the time.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the variety, quality, freshness and EASE of using Heart Rock's blends, thank you!"

Like most spice blends, berbere differs from region to region even from family to family. This African blend often bewilders Westerns, first with it's pronunciation (I've seen two different ones), and then with it's flavors - heat and sweet. The classic Ethiopian chicken dish called "doro wat' uses butter mixed with berere. It's also used to make stocks and soups.

Ingredients: cumin, paprika, coriander, chili pepper, ginger, sea salt, cardamom, cinnamon,  black pepper, fenugreek, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, ajwain

Brining Blend

Why brine and why you shouldn't be intimidated by the process. Bottom line is, you get a juicier turkey, chicken or pork and it requires little upfront prep work. You can use this blend in liquid or dry brining; both infuse the protein with great flavor as our blend contains the perfect balance of salt, spices, herbs and citrus. Plan on an overnight seasoning time and rinse thoroughly before roasting or it will be overly salty.

See our recipe for liquid brining on our recipe page. Order three 4oz. refill poly bags.

Ingredients: course sea salt, orange peel, black pepper, onion, garlic, rosemary, fennel, thyme, pink peppercorns, bay leaf

Cajun / Blackening Spice

A traditional Cajun County Blend of heat and a hint of sweet. Use in the making of sausage, jambalaya's and etouffee's. Rub onto salmon , chicken or chicken and cook/grill over high heat to form a "blackened" crust. The word "Cajun" originate from the term "les Acadians" which was used to describe French colonists who settled in the Acadia region of Canada in the late 1600's. Upon arrival in New Orleans they found a less than warm welcome from the French aristocracy and were forced to settle in the swampy southern region of Louisiana.

Ingredients: Spanish paprika, smoked paprika, thyme, onion, yellow mustard, oregano, black pepper, garlic, sea salt, black pepper, chili pepper, red pepper, oregano, cumin, cloves, cayenne pepper, white pepper, brown sugar

For a taste of the islands without the plane trip!

Ingredients: lemon thyme, allspice, thyme, coriander, Heart Rock's Mild Curry Blend, smoked red pepper flakes, turmeric, smoked paprika, garlic, orange peel, nutmeg, black pepper, cloves

Tahoe Chicken

Lets face it, chicken can be down right boring without added flavor by way of a rub or an infused marinade. This blend makes it down right easy to accomplish that goal. The citrus flavor balances the savory notes. Limiting this blend to chicken would be a disservice.

Ingredients: chives, lemon thyme, marjoram, onion, celery seed, sea salt, allspice, black pepper, garlic, lemon peel, sage, lime juice powder

Tahoe Chili ~ Red**

Nothing beats a hot bowl of chili on a cold winters night. Use this blend in meat & bean chili's.

Ingredients: Ancho & Chipotle chile powders, smoked paprika, onion, garlic, oregano, cumin, coriander, red bell pepper, chili powder, smoked black pepper, cayenne pepper.

Tahoe Chili ~ White**

Use this delicious blend in chicken, pork or bean chili's.

Ingredients: onion, cumin, garlic, coriander, green peppercorns, marjoram, cloves, allspice, cayenne pepper, ginger

Chinese Five Spice**

Use on meat and seafood; it marries especially well with salmon; roast green beans with it and add to chocolate macaroon cookies. The famous Peking duck includes it in the bronzing sauce made from the best soy sauce.

Ingredients: star anise, cinnamon, fennel, allspice, cloves

The term "Creole" describes the population of people who were born to settlers in French colonial Louisiana, specifically in New Orleans. Their cuisine is thought of as a little higher brow or aristocratic compared to Cajun. To many, Creole cuisine reminds them of the cooking of the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and northern Africa as the ingredients found in these regions are similar to that of Southern Louisiana. With this blend will keep you echoing "Laissaz les Bon Temps Roulez": Let the good times roll.

Ingredients: onion, oregano, thyme, garlic, paprika, black pepper, white pepper, sea salt, bay leaves, cayenne, dry yellow mustard, re pepper flakes

Tahoe Coffee~ Chile~Chocolate

A unique blend that combines three different taste profiles. Use it to dust meat and seafood. It's especially good on salmon and pork. We love it coated on pork ribs . It makes a sweet and savory crust ie bark in the BBQ circles.

Ingredients: Ancho chili powder, French roast coffee & chocolate beans, cocoa, black pepper, garlic, brown sugar, cumin, ginger, allspice, Nu-Flow

Tahoe Coffee Meat Rub

Coffee, the second most consumed hot beverage in the world after tea, is a must have in the morning for most of us. Now you can end your day with a meal cooked with it as well.

Flavor your favorite piece of meat with this unique blend. It's has a rich, earthy flavor without an overpowering coffee taste and a lightly sweet taste with the brown sugar.

Ingredients: dark roast coffee, brown sugar, black pepper, garlic, brown mustard seed, coriander, espresso salt, Nu-Flow, cayenne

Corned Beef Blend

Making your own corned beef is not only easy, it's better for you - who wants to be eating meat with nitrates! Just plan ahead, it's not a last minute preparation. See recipe page on how to prepare.  PLEASE order 2  (4 oz. tins) you're going to need it!

Ingredients: coriander, yellow & brown mustard seeds, allspice berries, black pepper, cloves, fennel seed, cinnamon chips, juniper, dill & celery seeds, bay leaves, ginger chips, cardamon seed, red pepper seed

Curry ~ Mild

"Curry powder" is a term non-existent in India. It's truly a Western term loosely based on India's madras powder which was assimilated by the British during their colonial rule in India.

Naturally used as a base in curries (chicken, vegetable & fish come to mind) it can also be used as a meat rub, whipped into butter,  added to dressings.

Ingredients: coriander, Heart Rock's Garam masala blend, ginger, yellow mustard seed, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, fenugreek, fennel, cinnamon

Curry ~ Hot

Please don't let the word 'hot' scare you off from purchasing with beautiful blend. It's mid range on a scale of 1-5. On the other hand, if you want more heat, add additional black and cayenne pepper. Yes, black pepper is considered a "hot" spice!

Ingredients: coriander, ginger, Heart Rock's Garam masala blend, turmeric, yellow & brown mustard seed, fenugreek, cumin, long pepper, black pepper, cardamon

This blend has become fashionable on some Western menus as a dip for pita bread when mixed with olive oil, however, don't stop there. Mix it with oil and rub over salmon and white fish, it makes a delicious crust when pan seared and then finished in the oven. It's also used to thicken and flavor soups in both Africa and the Middle East. We love it sprinkled over vegetables before roasting.

Ingredients: natural & black sesame seeds, coriander & cumin seeds, lemon thyme, sea salt & black pepper

Tahoe Extraordinaire (New 2022)

This blend would be considered an upgrade on the popular Herbs de Provence with the addition of the French Gray sea salt which really gives it a pop! It elevates the overall flavor of anything you sprinkle it onto, whether it be chicken, pork, or fish even a salad dressing!

Ingredients: French Gray Sea Salt, Thyme, savory, fennel, rosemary, lavender, tarragon, basil, oregano

Brown mustard seed, although the mildest of all the mustard's, plays an intricate part in this blend. It serves to balance the somewhat heavy notes of the herbs and allows the lavender to peak through with it's floral character. Use this blend on meats, poultry and fish. Make a delicious sauce with a few simple ingredients: saute mushrooms and onion in butter, add a teaspoon or two of the European blend and finish with red wine and a bit more butter.

Ingredients: brown mustard seed, garlic, rosemary, thyme, sea salt, black pepper, savory, sage, lavender

Fajita Seasoning

You can use this wonderful seasoning in any Mexican dish, including tacos & enchiladas and of course fajitas

Ingredients: chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, onion, roasted garlic, cornstarch, Nu-Flow, oregano, smoked sea salt, brown sugar, red pepper flakes.

French Fry Seasoning

Whether you're hand cutting your own or getting them out of the freezer, this blend will elevate those lovable fries. Besides potatoes, use on cut vegetables like zucchini, butternut squash, carrots and more! For a change of pace, sprinkle on it hot buttered popcorn.

Ingredients: onion, garlic, smoked black pepper, paprika, smoked sea salt, smoked paprika

Garam Masala**

Translates as "sweet mix" and is similar to a curry powder which it's often used with, however, it's without the hot spices and turmeric many curry blends have. Persian in origin, this spice blend is indispensable in Northern Indian cuisine. Our mixture resembles the Kashmiri GM. Although it can be used a a flavor base not unlike a curry blend, it's more frequently added to the dish at the end of cooking. Use sparingly with delicate fish or vegetables as it can overwhelm them.

Ingredients: coriander, cumin, black pepper, fennel, nigella seed, cinnamon, caraway, cardamon, clove, nutmeg

Tahoe Garlic Pepper

Simply put, use this blend on everything! How can you go wrong with four straight forward, FRESH ingredients that don't include any additives or preservatives; unlike store bought ones.

Ingredients: black pepper, garlic, onion, sea salt

Greek Spice Blend**

Great in a Greek salad of course but any Greek recipe will benefit with this blend.

Ingredients: oregano, mint leaves, thyme, savory, dill weed, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg
